Watch Algeria defender use Arsenal target Wilfried Zaha’s hand to hit HIMSELF in the face to try to win foul

Algerian left-back Ramy Bensebaini was the centre of attention after the final whistle went in the African Cup of Nations quarter final tie between Algeria and Ivory Coast.

The match ended with Algeria going through via penalties after the game finished normal and extra time at 1-1.

However during the game, Bensebaini appeared to grab Ivorian attacker Wilfried Zaha’s arm and hit himself in the face with it – an attempt to get the dangerous Crystal Palace star sent off.

Referee Bamlak Tessema Weyesa did not fall for the Algerian’s antics after the pair had already been booked for an incident that occurred earlier in the first half – the two players squaring up to one another.

Bensebaini, 24, had started the game well as he provided the cross to former West Ham United winger, Sofiane Feghouli who slotted in the opener on the 20 minute mark.

But during the scandalous incident with Arsenal target Wilfried Zaha, the Algerian defender lost all class as he rolled around on the floor writhing in pain – a very childish act.

Before the shootout began, Algeria had already missed an earlier penalty in normal time, a chance to go 2-0 up, before Al Sadd hit the woodwork.

Zaha was withdrawn from the Ivory Coast side in extra time so wasn’t available to take a spot kick – he was aiming to add to the two goals he had already scored in the tournament so far.

It was instead the Algerian who stepped up first in the shootout, calmly slotting his penalty away, with Algeria going through to face Nigeria in the semi-final on Sunday.
