Transfer news: Barcelona set to beat Paris Saint-Germain in race to sign ex-West Brom wonderkid Louie Barry

Barcelona are now ahead of Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign ex-West Bromwich Albion wonderkid Louie Barry.

The English striker, 16, rejected a professional contract with the Baggies and officially left the club last week.

Now he seems set to join many young players in leaving the country for a better shot at making it in the game.

Barry, a prolific England youth international, netted 10 goals in five games at a tournament with his nation’s Under-15s last year, offering a glimpse of his talent.

Having been with West Brom since the age of five, he’s attracted plenty of interest from around Europe and it was believed Paris Saint-Germain were in pole position to land him.

Now, though, the player, his parents, and his representatives have met with Barcelona and are now keen on the football project on offer at the Camp Nou, despite the potential riches on offer in Paris.

The news comes days after Chelsea lost two of their brightest hopes, Jamal Musiala and Bright Arrey-Mbi, to Bayern Munich as the talent drain continues.

Young English footballers now, buoyed by the success of Jadon Sancho, see their chances of becoming professionals being boosted by playing abroad.
