Tottenham and Manchester City had summer bids for Tanguy Ndombele rejected by Lyon

Tottenham and Manchester City both failed to sign Tanguy Ndombele over the summer despite submitting big-money bids for the Lyon ace

Ndombele, the midfielder, joined Lyon on a permanent basis earlier this year after spending the 2017/18 season on loan with the club from Amiens.

Ndombele looks to have the potential to be one of the finest midfielders in the world game

Still only 21, Ndombele showcased his talents last term and earned admiring glances from all across Europe, but Lyon managed to hold onto one of their prize assets.

He has stated this campaign as well as he ended the last, with his performance in Lyon’s Champions League defeat of Man City earning rave reviews, and it has now been revealed City actually tried to sign Ndombele over the summer.

RMC has suggested that City offered £44.75m for the 21-year-old, while Spurs are also reported to have made a formal bid – though its value is not disclosed.

With a range of excellent physical gifts, Ndombele has been typecast as nothing more than an athletic ball-winning midfielder, but his talents extend far beyond that limited skill set.

Ndombele caught the eye in Lyon’s shock defeat of Man City

He is brilliant at winning the ball from the opposition, but Ndombele truly excels in the transition phase. His ability to carry the ball forward after winning possession sets the youngster apart from numerous other midfielders his age, and in a few years Ndombele could be one of the most dynamic players in the world game.
