Aaron Ramsey transfer: Odds for Arsenal midfielder’s next club revealed as Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United lead English race

Aaron Ramsey looks certain to leave Arsenal over the coming months following the break down of contract talks.

Ramsey, the Wales midfielder, had been in discussions over new terms since the summer having entered the final year of his existing deal on July 1.

Ramsey will leave Arsenal either during or at the end of his 11th season in north London

However, it was reported earlier this week that talks have collapsed with the club withdrawing their final offer; there is now NO new contract on the table.

This means Ramsey is free to leave the Emirates for nothing at the end of the season, though reports have suggested Arsenal will cash in on the midfielder, 27, in January to make a profit, however small, on him.

Manchester United transfer news: How Red Devils could line-up if Zinedine Zidane replaces Jose Mourinho and signs his four prime targets

Zinedine Zidane is reportedly ‘desperate’ to replace Jose Mourinho as Manchester United manager.

Zidane, the former Real Madrid boss, has made himself available and is already taking English lessons as pressure continues to mount on Jose Mourinho after the Red Devils’ shaky start to the season.

Zidane is being considered as a potential replacement for Jose Mourinho

Should Mourinho be axed, Zidane is expecting to be contacted by United chiefs over the vacancy, and reports earlier this month claim he’s already preparing for that situation.

At the beginning of September, the Mirror claimed that the former France international has already been building a shortlist of transfer targets he would want to bring to Old Trafford.

Four players reported to be high on Zidane’s list are Edinson Cavani, the Paris Saint-Germain forward, as well as midfielders Toni Kroos of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara, and James Rodriguez – who is currently on loan at Bayern from Zidane’s former side Real.

Signing all four players would require a serious financial outlay on United’s part, but the club could agree to such a big spend to please their new manager.

But how would Zidane combine these four signings into United’s current squad to field a starting XI able to challenge at the highest level?

At the Bernabeu, Zidane showed incredible flexibility when it came to tactical systems, utilising one, two and three forward formations at various times throughout his tenure.

However, he did have a favoured approach of four defenders, four midfielders and two forwards, either lining up in a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-1-2.

The former system often saw Lucas Vazquez and Marco Asensio selected in the wide positions, though they played more like inside-forwards than classic wingers, while the latter system had Isco in the number 10 role, taking on the majority of Real’s attacking duties.

Zidane’s 4-4-2 was more like a 4-2-2-2 with wingers who looked to move narrow as well as to the touchline

If appointed United boss, it is expected Zidane would implement one of these two systems at Old Trafford. He would need a two-striker system to find space for both transfer target Cavani and United’s current forward Romelu Lukaku, while the midfield would have to include all of Kroos, Thiago and James Rodriguez – the trio on Zidane’s shortlist.

The 4-3-1-2 (above) seems to be the best fit for Zidane’s targets, as it would allow him to fit all three midfielders in, whilst also retaining Nemanja Matic in the holding role. For all the excellence of Real Madrid’s ball-playing midfielders, Brazil international Casemiro has been one of their most important players over the last few years in the role of destroyer. His incredible ability to break up play reduces the amount of defensive work his team-mates need to complete, thus allowing them to focus on the thing they should focus on – getting the ball forward.

Casemiro’s ability to break up play has made the Brazil international one of Real’s most valuable players

As there is no real width in the midfield or attacking zones, there is a lot of pressure on the full-backs to stretch play in the final third, and Luke Shaw, the left-back, looks perfect for this role having started the season so well. Antonio Valencia is an adequate option on the right, though it would not be a surprise to see Zidane either using Diogo Dalot or targeting an upgrade on the Old Trafford veteran should he be appointed manager to replace Mourinho.

Alternatively, Zidane could utilise the 4-4-2 (below) – though this would be a much more risky approach.

The key benefit of this system is the inclusion of another attacking player (Alexis Sanchez) to take the pressure to create play off the shoulders of the number 10 in the 4-3-1-2. You still have the number 10 (James Rodriguez), but he plays a more withdrawn role and finally has support in the final third.

However, the huge negative is just how isolated the two-man midfield would find themselves, especially without a designated destroyer selected in the starting line-up. Matic is far too slow to play in a two-man midfield, but Zidane evidently does not think a new defensive midfielder is a priority given his shortlist of targets.

The above line-up, featuring Zidane’s targets, would have the manager putting a remarkable amount of faith in Kroos and Thiago to never cheaply concede possession. If they were to lose the ball in the midfield zone, United’s opponents would have acres of space to run into as they launched an attack on David de Gea’s goal.

A double-pivot of Kroos and Thiago (above) is sure to be overrun

The main absentee from both of Zidane’s potential line-ups is Paul Pogba, and his decision to target three midfielders suggests Zidane has no desire to keep Pogba around. It is believed either one or the other, Pogba or Mourinho, will leave Old Trafford soon enough, but if Zidane comes in it could be both forced out the club.

The 4-3-1-2 appears to be the more suitable formation for Zidane to implement if chosen to replace Mourinho at Old Trafford, but it looks as if United would still be far away from winning the Premier League title – even if the club sign the four players Zidane is targeting above all others.

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has ‘every right’ to demand the same wages as Mesut Ozil, says talkSPORT host Adrian Durham

talkSPORT host Adrian Durham believes Aaron Ramsey has “every right” to demand the same wages Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil receives at the club.

Ramsey looks poised to leave the Gunners for free at the end of the season after it emerged talks between the player and club regarding a new contract had broken down.

Ramsey’s contract expires at the end of the season but is able to agree a pre-contract with a European club from Janaury 1

The Welshman has been an Arsenal player for ten years and has scored the winning goals in two of their last three FA Cup final victories (Hull in 2014 and Chelsea in 2017).

He was named the club’s player of the year last season and has received a great deal of praise from new Arsenal boss Unai Emery.

However, there is huge doubt over Ramsey’s future at the Emirates and Durham believes letting him go would be a mistake considering Arsenal gave Ozil a contract worth £350,00-a-week in January.

Speaking to fellow Drivetime host Darren Gough, Durham suggested said was “no logical reason” why Ozil should be paid more than Ramsey.

Durham believes Ozil does not deserve to be paid more than the Welshman

Durham said: “This is where the Mesut Ozil contract comes back to haunt Arsenal. Aaron Ramsey has every right to ask for the same money as Mesut Ozil.

“There is no logical reason why Ozil should be paid more than Ramsey.

“Ramsey is well within his rights to go to Arsenal and say he wants the same money as Ozil after the bumper contract they gave him.

“If Arsenal think they can do better or they can even afford to lose them on a free then that’s the way they’re running their club I guess.”

‘Aaron Ramsey could play anywhere in Europe’ – Ally McCoist blasts Arsenal for allowing Welshman’s contract to expire

Durham went on to echo the views made by the likes of Ally McCoist that Ramsey could play for some of Europe’s top sides before labelling the 27-year-old as “one of the best players in the Premier League.”

He added: “If Ramsey leaves Arsenal is he going to be scratching around for a club? Will he be looking at other clubs in the bottom half of the Premier League? I don’t think so.

“I think he can go to one of THE big club’s abroad. I absolutely feel they’ll come in for him.

“They’ve seen what he’s done on the international stage at Euro 2016. He was there with Wales and he was their best player. It will not have gone unnoticed that Ramsey was the main man for Wales.

Durham went on to label Ramsey as “one of the best players in the Premier League”

“This is not a bit-part player, this is not somebody who’s making up the numbers while the others are the stars, this is one of Arsenal’s main players, one of the best players in the Premier League.

“I’m bewildered as to what Arsenal’s rationale is.

“Losing Aaron Ramsey on a free strikes me as a big loss.”

Aaron Ramsey transfer: Liverpool, Chelsea or Manchester United? Potential destinations for the Arsenal ace

Aaron Ramsey looks certain to leave Arsenal in the coming months as contract talks with the Gunners have broken down.

Ramsey, the midfielder, has entered the final 12 months of his contract and he was in discussions with the club over extending his stay in north London during the summer.

Where does Aaron Ramsey’s future lie?

However, it was reported on Thursday that talks have been ended with NO new contract now on the table.

This means he will leave the Emirates for free when his existing contract expires at the end of the season, or in January if Arsenal can find a buyer for Ramsey to ensure they make some money on the midfielder.

‘Arsenal have lost control’ – Gunners blasted over Aaron Ramsey contract gaffe

A host of clubs are reported to be monitoring Ramsey knowing he is on the market, but just where could the Wales international end up?

talkSPORT.com have taken a look at five teams said to be keen on Ramsey, and we have assessed them as potential destinations, below…

Liverpool

As the summer transfer window drew towards its close, Liverpool were linked with a shock move for Ramsey. The Wales international was said to be of interest to Jurgen Klopp due to his profile and skillset, though the Liverpool manager understood getting a deal over the line would be hard as if Ramsey signed he would be further bloating an already bloated midfield.

However, with Ramsey free to sign a pre-contract in January ahead of a transfer next summer, Klopp could reignite his interest.

Would Ramsey get into Liverpool’s first choice midfield?

Ramsey would be perfect for the most advanced position in Klopp’s midfield trio, and he already plays as if the German is his manager; he is one of the most energetic players in the Premier League, and combines excellent pressing ability with a fine return of goals and assists.

When the Ramsey to Liverpool reports emerged over the summer, former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders told talkSPORT: “I think Aaron Ramsey will make Liverpool stronger. I think he’d be a great signing for Liverpool.

“If Liverpool sign him, they definitely get stronger. What a midfield that would be – Ramsey, [Naby] Keita and Fabinho.”

Juventus

Ramsey has reportedly already been offered to Juventus as Arsenal look to sell him in January rather than lose him for free next summer. The perennial Serie A champions are masters at securing talented players in budget deals, with their current midfield including the likes of Sami Khedira and Emre – both signed for free – and Ramsey could be their next cut-price signing.

Heading abroad could tempt Ramsey if he feels his time in the Premier League has come to an end, and signing for Juve would give the Wales star the opportunity to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo – surely a dream for any footballer.

The issue for Ramsey if he decides to move to Juventus would be playing time; the aforementioned Khedira and Can join Blaise Matuidi, Miralem Pjanic and Rodrigo Bentancur in the club’s midfield ranks, while the Old Lady also have a buy-back clause for the highly-rated Rolando Mandragora.

Would Ramsey be a starter ahead of that group? Max Allegri may like him, but nothing can be guaranteed in football.

Manchester United

Back in the summer of 2008, Man United announced they had agreed a deal with Cardiff to sign Ramsey, only for him to pen personal terms with Arsenal and join them instead. 10 years on from that failure, United were back in for Ramsey according to various reports published earlier this year.

Once again, the Red Devils missed out on their target, but they have been mooted as a potential destination for Ramsey when he leaves Arsenal in the coming months.

Ramsey’s skillset makes him a perfect Jose Mourinho player, with his energy and work rate turning the Wales star into a rare footballer – an attacking player who is willing to defend. Mourinho wants these kind of players, and it’s not hard to imagine the Portuguese preferring Ramsey in his team over Paul Pogba.

Pogba reportedly wants to leave United and it looks like Mourinho wants the France midfielder gone as well. Arsenal fans have backed a Ramsey-Pogba swap deal, but it’s more likely Ramsey will head to Old Trafford with Pogba leaving – but not for the Emirates.

AC Milan

The Standard say Milan are monitoring Ramsey’s situation at Arsenal, just a few days after it was announced that Ivan Gazidis is leaving the Gunners to become the San Siro club’s chief executive. Gazidis helped oversee the big summer rebuild at the Emirates that included Unai Emery’s appointment as manager to succeed Arsene Wenger, and he’s likely to be tasked with helping Milan’s ongoing rebuild once he officially starts his new job next month.

The Rossoneri have spent big over the last few years as they bid to return to the pinnacle of European and Italian football, and Ramsey could be another headline name to help them with their task.

Gonazlo Higuain is one of the big-name players signed by Milan over the last couple of years

As with Juventus’ interest, the only chance Milan have of signing Ramsey is if the player himself decides he wants to test himself abroad, while Juve are certainly the more enticing prospect if a move to Italy is on the cards.

However, he’s much more likely to be a guaranteed starter at Milan than with Juve, and Ramsey may prefer to join a lesser squad where he is the star, rather than being just one of many good players in the Juventus team.

Chelsea

It is a move that would invariably anger Arsenal fans, but Ramsey heading to Chelsea could be on the cards. The Blues are reported to be keeping tabs on his contract situation ahead of a potential swoop, and there is a clear space in Maurizio Sarri’s squad for Ramsey to take.

Mateo Kovacic will return to Real Madrid at the end of the season as Chelsea have no option to buy in the Croatia international’s loan deal, meaning the most advanced position in Sarri’s midfield will be vacant. Ross Barkley or Ruben Loftus-Cheek could take the role, but Ramsey is a much better player than either of Chelsea’s current duo.

He would provide a guaranteed goal threat from midfield and has the energy and work rate to excel under Sarri, while years playing ‘WengerBall’ means Ramsey would have little to do in terms of getting used to Chelsea’s technical and pass heavy style of play.

The big question is: would Ramsey risk the ire of the Arsenal support by joining one of their fiercest rivals?

‘Arsenal have lost control’ – Gunners blasted over Aaron Ramsey contract gaffe

Arsenal have been accused of ‘losing control and losing power’ over player contracts following reports Aaron Ramsey is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

The Wales international is in the final year of his deal with the Gunners has been locked in talks over fresh terms.

However, reports on Wednesday emerged that those negotiations have now broken down, meaning the midfielder is expected to leave next summer in a free transfer.

MORE: ‘Ramsey could play anywhere in Europe’ – Arsenal blasted over latest contract blunder

This isn’t the only time Arsenal have invited criticism over contracts – Alexis Sanchez had just six months to run on his deal before he left for Manchester last January, while Mesut Ozil held the club to ransom when he signed a new bumper deal worth £350,000-a-week.

Ozil is by far the highest-earning player at Arsenal

Ramsey also isn’t the only player who currently stands to leave the club for nothing next summer, with three other first-team players all out of contract at the end of this season.

And former Wales striker Dean Saunders can’t believe the Gunners are allowing a player of Ramsey’s quality to go for nothing.

“I can’t understand it,” the 75-cap Welshman told Jim White.

“He’s been at Arsenal for ten years and they’ve let his contract run down. And it’s not just him, it happened with Ozil and it happened with Sanchez.

“Once the players can see the finishing line on their contract, you’ve lost all control as a club.

Aaron Ramsey has twice scored winning goals in an FA Cup final for the Arsenal

“They managed to keep hold of Ozil, but it has cost them an absolute fortune, and now this is what happens, the players are knocking on the door saying: ‘If he’s getting that, what are you going to give me?’ The bar has gone up.

“It’s a game of poker now, but Arsenal have lost the power. Ramsey and his agent have got the power now, because he can just let his contract run out and leave for nothing.”

The 27-year-old midfielder will have no shortage of suitors should he leave the Emirates Stadium next year.

Ramsey has been linked with Premier League rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United, while Italian champions Juventus are also said to be interested.

And, asked if the Welshman can play at the highest level, Saunders added: “Yes he can.

“Arsene Wenger played him everywhere across in the midfield and he is a massively important player for Wales

“He can do a bit of everything, he sees passes, he’ll go box to box and he covers more ground than most players – at the Euros I think he covered more ground than every other player.”

‘Aaron Ramsey could play anywhere in Europe’ – Ally McCoist blasts Arsenal for allowing Welshman’s contract to expire

Ally McCoist has been left absolutely stunned by reports which claim Arsenal could lose Aaron Ramsey for nothing at the end of the season, after failing to tie him down to a new contract.

The Welshman is in the final year of his Gunners contract and has been locked in talks over a new deal with the club.

But rumours emerged on Wednesday which claim those negotiations have now collapsed.

It means Ramsey is likely to leave the Emirates Stadium for FREE in the summer when his deal expires.

NOT JUST RAMBO: The Arsenal players whose contracts also expire in 2019

The 27-year-old has been linked with a host of clubs in recent months as his Arsenal deal winds down, including Premier League rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United, while Italian champions Juventus are also said to be interested.

Scottish football legend McCoist says Ramsey is good enough to play in any of Europe’s top leagues, and can’t understand why Arsenal could make such a blunder by letting him go for nothing.

Speaking on Thursday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the talkSPORT favourite said: “If that’s been allowed to happen that is absolutely unbelievable.

“Not just the football side of it, it’s the business side of it – if they’ve allowed Ramsey’s contract to expire in the summer that’s absolutely incredible.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery could lose one of his best players for nothing this summer

“In fact, it’s that incredible, I can’t believe it’s true.

“A host of clubs who would want to take Aaron Ramsey.

“He could play anywhere, he would certainly be suited to playing somewhere else in Europe – he could play in Spain or in Italy.

“It’s another little headache Arsenal have got if that’s the case.”

Manchester United transfer news: Jose Mourinho ready to offer almost £60million for Inter defender Milan Skriniar

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is ready to offer almost £60million for Inter defender Milan Skriniar, according to reports.

Mourinho, the Portuguese, failed in his attempts to bring a new central defender to Old Trafford over the summer, despite plotting moves for the likes of Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire, the Leicester and England star.

Skriniar joined Inter from Sampdoria in summer 2017

The United boss remains on the lookout for a new centre-half, and Calciomercato say Skriniar of Inter has risen to the top of his shortlist.

The 23-year-old Slovakia international is highly-rated and has already been the subject of interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including United’s local rivals Manchester City.

However, United are named in the report as being the most ‘formidable’ team coming in for Skriniar, in terms of a potential offer.

Mourinho is ready to offer around £58million (€65m) for the former Sampdoria star, though he may face opposition for Skriniar – from his own club.

Skriniar is rated as one of the finest defenders in Italy’s Serie A

According to the report, ‘Mourinho is clearly losing strength in the eyes of the Man United leadership’, and the club’s chiefs have no plan to build the future around the Portuguese coach.

They do not want to give Mourinho transfer funds when he’s unlikely to be at the club on a long-term basis, and this, according to Calciomercato, has ruled out any chance of United making a huge offer for Skriniar in January.
