Manchester United must back manager Jose Mourinho by selling Paul Pogba when the transfer window reopens in January, believes former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan.
The talkSPORT regular says the rave reviews Pogba earned for his performances at the World Cup were ‘a myth’ and that he has not delivered since returning to Old Trafford for £89million two years ago.
There are fresh doubts over the World Cup winner’s future at United after he was stripped of the vice-captaincy by Mourinho on Tuesday, while footage from a training session at the club’s Carrington training ground appeared to show a frosty encounter between the manager and player.
It is claimed the relationship between Pogba and Mourinho has reached breaking point after the 25-year-old made comments to the press about the negative tactics at Old Trafford.
And Jordan believes United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward must offer a show of support to Mourinho by getting Pogba out of the club.
Speaking about the Pogba-Mourinho situation at Manchester United with talkSPORT host Jim White on Wednesday, he said: “We wouldn’t be having this discussion if Pogba was pulling up trees, if he was playing well, but he’s not playing well and he hasn’t contributed.
“A myth has come out of the World Cup that he was brilliant at the World Cup, but he wasn’t!
“He was OK at the World Cup. Mbappe was brilliant, Griezmann was brilliant and Kante was brilliant – Pogba was noise.
“I think the logical thing is Pogba gets sold and Manchester United move on in a better direction than the one they’re currently going in.
“You can’t have a player sitting in the stands, looking like Dr Dre in sunglasses at 10pm, watching the team and then leaving before the end of the game because it doesn’t suit him to be there.
“I would get him out the door, absolutely. Not even a consideration.
“Change the direction with this, Mourinho has got to be backed.
“People talk about Woodward’s relationship with Mourinho – forget what you think you saw in the summer, because he gave him a new contract in January!
“He is Woodward’s man and he needs to intervene behind the scenes to remove this player from the scenario and give the manager an opportunity to move forward.”
