Manchester United transfer news: Club ‘submit £36m bid’ for Spain U21 star Dani Olmo, who played for Barcelona academy

Manchester United have submitted a £36million bid for Dinamo Zagreb star Dani Olmo, according to reports.

The winger impressed during Spain’s European Under-21 Championship triumph, scoring scoring three goals, including the second strike in a 2-1 win over Germany in the final last month.

Olmo, a former Barcelona youth player, scored 10 times for Zagreb in the 2018/19 campaign and was named Croatia’s Player of the Season.

The 21-year-old has been linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and AC Milan.

Zagreb are renowned for producing young talent, nurturing both Luka Modric and Mario Mandzukic, now stars for Real Madrid and Juventus respectively.

United have been strengthening their attacking options with the £18million capture of Daniel James from Swansea.

And Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to be keen on adding another forward to his front line.

Anthony Martial fell out of favour with the Norwegian towards the end of last season and has scored just twice since February.

And reports in Croatia claim Solskjaer wants to sign Olmo this summer.

United’s two summer arrivals so far, James and the £50m capture of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, both 21, fit into the club’s new transfer approach of signing young, hungry players.

Olmo was asked by Croatian news outlet TPortal about his next move if his club decide to sell him and he insisted he would only move if it meant regular playing time.

“I am still young and for me it is most important that I have minutes,” he said.

Olmo’s agent believes he would be a good fit at Old Trafford, but was unwilling to comment on speculation claiming a bid has been made.

“I send all interested clubs to Dinamo and when the clubs agree a fee, I will come to agree on the conditions for Dani,” Andyja Baru told Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti.

“Dani can play for any club as he has already showed this at the Euro U21s. When we are talking about Manchester United, they have no such player as Olmo.”
