‘Manchester United are in disarray – it reminds me of the season under David Moyes’, says local journalist

Manchester United’s season is beginning to resemble the club’s disastrous campaign under David Moyes, according to Manchester-based journalist Jamie Jackson.

The Guardian’s Manchester football correspondent has told talkSPORT things are ‘starting to unravel’ at Old Trafford, and believes both Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba could end up leaving the club this term.

United’s tumultuous season suffered another twist on Tuesday as they were dumped out of the EFL Cup on penalties by Frank Lampard’s Derby County.

Following the game, Mourinho also sparked fresh questions over his relationship with record signing Pogba by announcing he had stripped the midfielder from the vice-captaincy.

Stripping Pogba of the captain’s armband will not help his and Mourinho’s apparently frosty relationship

And Jackson claims this may be the moment which see Pogba up sticks and leave Old Trafford a second time, saying the World Cup winner ‘has zero loyalty’ to the Red Devils.

Reflecting on Tuesday’s defeat on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the journalist said: “I have to say, it’s starting to remind me of the David Moyes season.

“It’s starting to unravel and I walked away from Old Trafford last night thinking the whole place is in disarray.

“Moyes was sacked when United could no longer qualify for the Champions League, after about 34 league games, and I’m not sure Mourinho will last that long if this carries on, because something is not right.

“The fact Mourinho felt he had to strip the second captaincy from Pogba is a very interesting move.

“He said after the opening game of the season [a 2-1 defeat to Leicester] that he had never been happier with Pogba, and he was captain on that day. But, six games later, we are where we are now.

Pogba wants to leave. He’s left before, remember.

“He has ZERO loyalty, like any of these top class players, to the club.

Paul Pogba won the World Cup with France in the summer

“He’s come back from the World Cup, where he scored in a winning final for France and he’s probably looking at it thinking: ‘I don’t want to be here anymore’.

“He’s probably thinking: ‘Are we going to win the Premier League title? No. I’m 25 and Barcelona are interested in me, yes please’.”
