Liverpool transfer news: Agent of Trabzonspor keeper Ugurcan Cakir confirms Reds interest

Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Trabzonspor’s young goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, according to the player’s agent.

The 23-year-old has been impressive this season and has caught the eye of several European clubs for his assured displays between the sticks in the Turkish top flight.

Turkey’s goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir is a reported target for Liverpool

And his agent, Erdi Kirkpinar, has claimed Liverpool have been in contact with him over a potential move.

Speaking to Turkish media outlet Ajansspor, he said: “Every team have scouts and some of them are following Ugurcan’s matches. Schalke haven’t made an official offer for him.

“I know Lille and Schalke are following him. Liverpool are also interested in him. Liverpool officials have talked with us, we had some contacts, but no official offer has come from them.”

Reds chief Jurgen Klopp is looking for a back-up to Alisson, with current No 2 Simon Mignolet set to leave the club in the summer.

And he has identified Cakir as the perfect replacement for the Belgian as he has emerged as one of the best stoppers in the Turkish Super Lig.

Cakir, who recently earned a call-up to the Turkish national team, is currently contracted with the Trabzon club until 2021
