Joao Felix transfer: How Atletico Madrid’s new signing compares with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Kylian Mbappe

Joao Felix became the fifth most expensive player in history when his transfer from Benfica to Atletico Madrid was completed.

The forward was signed for £113million with only Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele moving for more cash.

The 19-year-old is the second most expensive teenager behind Mbappe following his blockbuster move from Monaco to Paris Saint-Germain.

Felix may have only made his senior debut in August but he is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in world football.

Here at talkSPORT.com, we have taken a look at how the teenager’s statistics compared to Neymar, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mbappe at the same age.

Joao Felix

First team goals: 20

Champions League goals: 0

International goals: 0

The forward may have only made his debut in August but he certainly hit the ground running with Benfica.

He did not have the benefit of playing in the Champions League at that age, like Messi, Ronaldo and Mbappe, but he made an impact in the Europa League.

Felix scored a hat-trick against Eintracht Frankfurt in April and was the youngest player to do so in the competition.

He also won the Primeira Liga with Benfica and the Nations League with Portugal last season.

Kylian Mbappe

First team goals: 52

International goals: 9

Champions League goals: 10

Mbappe had the benefit of making his Monaco debut at 16 and has been scoring goals for fun in the French league ever since.

He won Ligue 1 twice as a teenager, once with Monaco and once with Paris Saint-Germain, and went on to win it for a third time after turning 20.

The striker also won the World Cup last summer while he was still 19.

Lionel Messi

First team goals: 26

International goals: 4

Champions League goals: 2

Messi has never come on the open transfer market so who knows who sort of fee he could have, or would have, commanded during his career.

Barcelona’s all-time record scorer and one of the greatest players to play the game.

Despite all the accolades and plaudits he has received since he made a relatively sluggish start to life as a professional after making his debut at 17, slow for someone like Messi.

He still managed to win two LaLiga titles and one Champions League while still a teenager.

Cristiano Ronaldo

First team goals: 17

International goals: 7

Champions League goals: 0

Ronaldo was the most expensive teenager in English football history when Man United signed him from Sporting Lisbon for £12.24million in 2003.

He struggled to find his goalscoring form in his early years with United and it was not until his early 20s that he was hitting 20 goals a season.

Neymar

First team goals: 80

International goals: 8

Champions League goals: 0

The Brazil international was 21 when he signed for Barcelona so his goalscoring figures certainly look inflated. He made his debut as a 17-year-old and was regularly scoring 40 goals a season before his transfer to LaLiga.

The forward won the Campeonato Paulista, Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores while a teenager with Santos.
