Alvaro Morata will join Atletico Madrid on a loan deal before completing a permanent switch in 2020.
The Chelsea striker spent the second half of last season on loan in the Spanish capital after failing to convince former boss Maurizio Sarri of his abilities.
After arriving from Real Madrid in 2017 for a fee of around £60million, the Spaniard initially lit up the Premier League.
But his form tailed off and he was sidelined by Antonio Conte and then Sarri.
And Atletico have confirmed the Spaniard will return to Wanda Metropolitano and the move will become permanent at the beginning of the 2020-21 season.
After making his debut in February, Morata featured a total of 16 times and scored six goals, revealing how desperate he was to return to his native country.
Former teammate Eden Hazard has also swapped west London for Madrid, but instead made a £130m move to rivals Real.
New Blues manager Frank Lampard has promised to use the club’s academy graduates, with Tammy Abraham excelling on loan at Aston Villa last season.
A two-window transfer ban imposed by FIFA means the 21-year-old is likely to get a chance to lead the line under Lampard.
