Arsenal have revived their interest in Benfica star Ruben Dias, according to reports.
It looks likely that the Gunners will need to replace Laurent Koscielny after the club captain refused to travel with the squad for their pre-season tour of the US.
Emirates chiefs have put an £8.8million price tag on Koscielny, who is in the final year of his contract.
The Daily Mail claim Arsenal targeted Portugal international Dias at the start of the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old played 30 league games as Benfica won Primeira Liga last season.
He has a release clause of around £54million, which could prove too costly for Gunners boss Unai Emery, who has been given a transfer budget of just £45million.
However, Arsenal’s need for a centre-half has increased over the past two days following Koscielny’s desire to leave the club.
In a statement on Thursday, Arsenal said: “Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel to the US for our pre-season tour.

“We are very disappointed by Laurent’s actions, which are against our clear instructions.
“We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time.”
Koscielny joined Arsenal in a £9.7million deal from Lorient in 2010, and is believed to want a return to France this summer.
