Arsenal transfer news: Gunners remain interested in Ever Banega after reportedly failing with summer approach

Arsenal chiefs want to sign Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega, according to reports.

Banega, the Argentina international, was linked with a move to north London over the summer, but he rejected the chance to join the Gunners and instead stayed with Sevilla.

Banega has twice worked under Emery, the current Arsenal manager

The 30-year-old remains a target of Unai Emery’s, who worked with the midfielder at Valencia, before Banega signed for Sevilla after Emery was named manager of the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan club.

And, according to The Sun, Arsenal’s new powerbrokers want to help Emery in his attempts to sign Banega.

Ivan Gazidis announced he was leaving his role as Arsenal’s chief executive earlier this week, and Raul Sanllehi is set to become the club’s head of football following the former’s departure.

Banega has become Sanllehi’s priority, and the Argentina international has a release clause worth around £18million in his current contract.

Banega represented Argentina at this summer’s World Cup

Arsenal made five first-team signings over the summer, and they have started the season relatively brightly – winning three of five matches to sit seventh in the Premier League table.
